What ATS-safe actually means
Every template in this gallery is built to parse, so the tag is not a marketing badge. An applicant tracking system reads your PDF by extracting a text stream, then guessing which chunk is your name, which is a job title, and which is a date. It does not see your layout. It sees the reading order the file encodes. ATS-safe means that reading order stays linear and your headings map to fields the parser expects: experience, education, skills. Roleframe exports selectable-text PDFs, not images, so the parser gets real characters instead of a scan it has to OCR.
What parses and what breaks
Real text beats graphics. Section headings the parser recognizes beat clever synonyms, so use experience, not career journey. A single column is the safest reading order because there is only one path through the page. Two columns are the main risk: an older parser can read straight across a line and interleave a job title on the left with a skill on the right, or it reads the whole left column then the whole right one, which is fine only if each column is self-contained. Dates in a consistent month and year format keep your timeline intact. Avoid putting contact details or dates inside headers, footers, tables, or text boxes, since some parsers drop those regions. Roleframe's ATS score checks these things before you export and flags what a parser would miss.
The templates in this gallery
ATS Clean is the safe default: one column, recruiter-friendly, nothing for a parser to trip on. ATS Minimal and Centerline center the header and keep a single column, so the reading order stays linear while the page still looks composed. Modern Slate adds horizontal section rules and a cyan accent for structure without breaking the flow. Editorial Balance uses centered dividers for a more polished feel, still single column. Executive Split puts your name on the left and your contact block on the right in a split header, which reads cleanly and suits senior roles. Modern Minimal uses two-column experience rows, company left and role right; each row is self-contained, so the pairing stays intact. ATS Two-Column Classic is the one true sidebar layout here: main column left, a right rail for skills, languages, and awards. Pick it when you want that density, and run the ATS score first to confirm the columns read in order.
